The aphid was the first creature to use my bugleg macros. Initially the calculation was done directly in the aphid but later the bugleg was abstracted into a macro for use in other creatures.
The aphid also saw the first use of the eye which was also later abstracted into it's own macro.
The aphid was not initally meant to be an aphid at the start but simply a generic insect; the result just happened to end up looking aphid like.
