The millipede arose out of watching real millipedes scuttle around the bathroom. I was facinated by the wave motion of their legs and decided to try and reproduce it. The millipede is made up of segments that are repeated using a loop with each leg only slightly out of phase with the last. Using the loop I was able to cut down on the amount of code and produce a millipede of arbitrary length.
